Bells Of Acheron #0 (2011)

Bells Of Acheron #0 (2011)
44pg, A5 (6.5" x 9.3"), pro-printed, English

Interview
While Heaven Wept, Dantesco, Desaster, Funebrarum, Nocturnal, Apokalyptic Raids, Craig Pillard, Anatomia/Nuclear Death, Volcano, Omision, Unaussprechlichen Kulten, Decomposed, Communion, The Devils Blood

I once asked a zine editor if they have second-hand or zine that they dont want to keep and sell them at discounted-priced. And this is one of that I got. Thanks man!

I want to introduce you the editor of this zine; Jesus "Unholy Pariah Outsider Of Anti Metal Colombian Scene Caller Of The Paranormal Blood Spawns Of Desecration And Nightmares" Claros. How's that for a name? Great right?

The editor has 20 years of experience in doing interviews for zine. Didn't mentioned what zine or maybe contributor or co-editor. The works here is great, if not excellent! Questions are very long (no intro before the interview though). Although a bit 'unconventional' with no editorial section and starts the debut issue with #0.

The layout is in cut n paste style, small fonts, the pages numbered, no table of content, some page with frame artwork. Killer artwork especially on the review section. I got problem with page 34. Couldn't figure it out, written in language I don't understand.

Not much reviews in this issue. They are alphabetically arranged and not rated.

The one I like the most, the section call "Horrenda Vision...", which is the reviews of old Colombian bands and demos.

The zine is actually smaller than A5. I put the dimension to not confuse all of you.

I tried google the zine's name before uploading this post. Found some reviews (issue #3) and the editor's email and website.

Great work. Now I am looking for other issues of Bells of Acheron.

Ultra Violent #9

Ultra Violent #9
60pg, 21cm x 26.7cm, pro-printed, English

Interview
Uwe Boll, Chuck Parello, Dennison Ramalho, Ben Tatar, John Wintergate, Meir Zarchi

Articles
The Abandon, Compound Pictures, Forced Entry, Independent Roll Call (on indie film) and Remembering Roger Watkins

This is a magazine that I bought many years ago. Horror & Exploitation Cinema magazine, as they call it. At that time, I kind of have motto for this blog "for publication promoting the forces of darkness" which featuring any publication that can be seen as absurd, dark, taboo, abnormal from Malay culture perspective but that topic is too broad for me to focus. Then I smaller the scope to fanzine and later to just metal zine/magazine. Since I already have this magazine and I like it too so I put it here.

Firstly, it's quite a surprise to see it on sale in the local bookstore. I hope the local authority can relax a bit their rule on censorship (or maybe they let it on sale by mistake).

Scott Gabbey and team made a good work here with the content. Interviews with horror movie director from cult movie like Boarding House or I Spit On Your Grave. Most of the topic discussed are the same topic you can read in a metal zine. Some gore arts, naked photos from the movies being discussed or reviewed.

The reviews section is of course focus on movies (in alphabetical order but not rated) but surprisingly there are some black metal CDs being review in the music CD section.

The layout however need some improvement. I am so used with professional magazine with fancy layout. What you can see here is normal 2 columns per page and 3 columns for review.

Eclectic Arts #2 (2011)

Eclectic Arts #2 (2011)
44pg, letter, pro-printed, English

Interview
Clandestine Blaze, Dawn Desiree, Negative Existence, Warblood, Blodsgard

The second issue of this environmental friendly zine, bought from Negative Existence. I wanted to check the "progress" of the zine. The layout, etc are almost all like #1. Mentioned here #2 was released after few weeks after #1.

Mark Sugiyama likes black metal a lot and also explore other non-music stuff in this zine. You will find non-musician also being featured here. And that includes sculptor, painter, etc. You already know if you read #1. However there is no articles on craft breweries. Pretty sure in #1, the editor mentioned the zine is dedicated to this. Maybe continue again in #3 perhaps?

Looking at close-up photo of the face at the size of A4 paper looks a bit scary (referring to Dawn Desiree interview).

Beside interviews there are some articles, section on local scene and some short review in similar style like #1.

A quick googling, I found a blog made by the editor. He mentioned about doing another issue but can't find (read: I am too lazy to browse) the latest issue available.

Eclectic Arts #1 (Apr. 2011)

Eclectic Arts #1 (Apr. 2011)
48pg, letter, laser xerox, English

Interview
Maniac Butcher, Black Tape For A Blue Girl, Satanic Warmaster, Vienna Teng (www.viennateng.com)

It is mention in the zine that this zine is printed with recycled paper. Well, this might be my first zine printed with recycled materials. My first 'green' zine I would say.

The zine is dedicated to musician, artist and craft breweries. Again, my first zine covering such topics in one publication.

That's explain the weird selection of bands. You have BM and non-metal in an issue. Maniac Butcher?! The editor mentioned he's fan of the bands.  Questions are interesting. He do have inside-out knowledge of the bands. Since he is also a musician, some questions are related with music-composing and music business/industry.

There are articles on craft brewery and one article entitled "Last Call", about being a female black metal fan by Asti Spumante. Maybe it is applicable for US scene. Euro scene is different as what I was told.

The music reviews are simple and short. Not rated, not alphabetically arranged. Asti wrote some reviews too, the longer ones.

Lastly, about the layout. The layout is too simple. Just 1 column (or no column, if that you want to call it). Has table of content but the pages are not numbered. Some page have background pictures.

Stated here #3 is in progress although #2 not yet printed. That's how productive they are.

Metal Storm #3 (1999)

Metal Storm #3 (1999)
64pg, A4, pro-printed, English

Interview
Mesmerize, Airged, Lamh, Dream Devoid, Leprosy, Rotting Christ, Sadistic Noise, Stigmata IV, Time Machine, Wardog, Lux Occulta, Marduk, Angra, Celestial Scream, Criminal, Immolation, Ancient Rites

Article
Alexander The Great

Another Metal Storm but this is from Greece. Do you know Malaysia also has Metal Storm, an old pro-printed magazine created by the one of the editor of Nocturnal Slaves which later writes for Karisma (and some other magazines)? I think I will create one entry for the Malaysian one because I still keep this magazine.

Anyway, back to this Greek one, this magazine consist of Nikos Tzouannis as the Chief Editor, assisted by 3 writers. The previous issues, if I understand it correctly was written in Greek.

The layout; 3 columns per page which very much MS Word standard layout with big font size, probably size 12. Fortunately they use grey background and printed on glossy paper. If just plain white background, it will look very dull. Has table of content and the pages are numbered.

The main content is on Greek scene with its excellent choice of bands. The reviews are more on the Greek scene as well. The review section is called "Disk Count". The reviews are alphabetically arranged and rated out of 20. It probably include CD & LP but not really sure on that because they didn't mention the format of the album.

They also put reviews of Greek books in a section called "Free Your Mind". The article on Alexander the Great is a nice read too. Remember, internet just started at this point of time. So it is quite an effort to prepare article like this.

Not much info I can get when googling about this magazine. Below are the contact address and email.

Morbid Abominations #2 (2011)

Morbid Abominations #2 (2011)
44 pg, A4, pro-print, English

Interview
Funeral Goat, Maniac Butcher, Sadomator, Ysengrin, Ravencult, Impure Worship, Satanic Warmaster, Morbosidad, Dead Congregation, Mitochondrion, Tundra, Mortem Zine, Communion

Bio
Grom, Black Feast, Blut Aus Nord (own words by Dalihrob)

In this second issue the layout is the same like the debut issue except that the frame art kills this time as you can see. Some flyers to fill up the space at end of the interview. The pages are numbered and have table of content, as usual.

The editorial this time consist of PB, and writers Dalihrob, Werwolfthron, Xalpian and contributors RLF & Behherit. Again, a very entertaining read. This issue was among the first interview with Barbarud of Maniac Butcher since their 'resurrection' that I read. Used to trade Malaysian metal with Pussy God's releases and bought Abhorer & Impiety 7" from his mailorder during my high school year. BTW, I bought this zine like 5 years ago. Read many other interviews since then.

The reviews covers music format and zine. They are not rated, arranged in alphabetical order and the format are stated. There's Deadhead zine review, a very long review by Xalpian. Beside reviews, there is also report on Deathkult Open Air (Germany).

Unfortunately this zine already sold-out but I still have some copies left for trade.

No news on the new issue when visiting their website. The label however is very active.

Bonecrunch #3 (2000)

Bonecrunch #3 (2000)
36 pg, A4, xerox, English

Interview
Nile, Cenotaph, Bones Brigade, Prophecy, Regurgitation, Flatulation, Razorback Records, Anticipate, Cerebral Turbulency

Another 'pre-owned' zine I gladly add to BsV archive. There is contact address in here but I can't read it. Not sure the origin of this zine.

The zine is not stapled. There are some layout with white text on white background or black text on dark background making them hard to read. No page number and no table of content. Layout is a bit messy but after a while I can deal with it. Not much pictures is used here. The layout on the review section is better. The printing of the mastercopy and the xerox quality can be made better.

The interviews are good. The review section only cover music format (separated by formats; album, 7" and demo). They are not rated and not alphabetically arranged.

One of the interesting read here is the article on rip off, named as "Rip Off Denunciation Department". Among the dishonored cunts here is a place called "Le Crockmore" in France which ripping off bands performing there. This is new for me. Usually rip-off section only list label, bands etc which didn't send the stuff we order or trade but here they widen the scope of rip-off.

Some info missing for me to update here is the zine contact address. Anyone having this info, do contact me.

Cranial Impalement #1 (2001)

Cranial Impalement #1 (2001)
24 pg, A5, xerox, Italian/English

Interview
Brodequine, Cripple Bastards

Bought a 'pre-owned' (new term I discovered recently to replace the word 'second-hand'). Just curious to see how the zine looks like and add to BsV archive.

The zine is written in English & Italian. The editorial is made in 2 language (Italian/English). No page number and no table of content. Very basic computer layout. There are some flyers to fill up the page. The questions are 'simple and easy' type. Xerox quality can be made better.

The reviews are short and they are rated. They cover music reviews (plenty of them!) but didn't mention the format. From the stuff reviewed, the zine support brutal death/gore/grind scene. Well, you can already guess that from the name of the zine too.

The fuck off list includes Heavy Metal music (maybe because of the normal vocals?) along with priest and religion.

Not sure the email still working or not. If you know any info on the zine, leave your comment here.

Discarnage #2 (2014)

Discarnage #2 (2014)
68 pg, A5, xerox, Malay/English

Interview
Funereality, Muntah Darah, Acid Knight, Structure Fire Records, Mu-Aru, Brood Carnage, Mental Distortion, Rotgut, Disgraved, Kimar Records/Perantaraan Zine

Issue #2 of this zine from Sabah. The name changed? It was Dis-Carnage in #1. In this issue it is spelt as Discarnage. Anyway, compared with the debut issue, obviously you can see the size is 3 times thicker. Still maintain the cut n' paste style but this time using less background pictures. The editor replace this with black background which looks nice too when you can make it in this kind of photocopy quality. The text print and the pictures are still in the same quality like the previous one.

Also in this issue, there are few bands from outside Malaysia and these are in English. The rest of the content are in Malay.

The reviews are separated in 2 sections, simply named as CD/Tapes/7" reviews & zine reviews. All are not alphabetically arranged and not rated. Unlike in issue #1, they are named 'Rot 1', 'Rot 2'.

Other than this there are also gig report and articles.

The gig report is on Sickening Art Vol. 6. Just a simple review of the band perform and the whole setlist by the bands.

The are articles are interesting too. One is about "Metal Punk Death Squad (MPDS)" and the best of 2013 Death Metal demos (from the editor's own collection). The best of 2013 features the front cover artwork, a short review and they are rated. On the last pages also having short section on Morbid Bastard Records (short review of the label's releases. And lastly on the last page is their distro list.

Of all the interviews, Kimar Recs is the longest one. Very interesting chat. Unfortunately it is in Malay. Other interesting one is with Structure Fire Records, featured using the original hand-writing.

I am not sure how many copies was made for the first print. The one I have now is the second print (in March 2015, made in 50 copies, hand-numbered). In this second print, the editor used different front cover and different editorial. The front cover arwork is made by Frank (Sir, You Die). If not mistaken, Frank also drawn my Enslaved In Blackness blog logo (like 10 years ago) but I can be wrong. My hotmail email account was hacked and lost the details.

All copies are hand-numbered. I have #32 to #36. I think I will keep #36.

Contact the editor now for info or to purchase a copy. Or if you are lucky enough I might have some copy left.

Total Death #2 (2013)

Total Death #2 (2013)
56 pg, A5, pro-printed, English

Interview
Goat Skull, Impaler Of Pest, Grom Records, Ugra Karma, Skin Eater, Nunslaughter, With Burning Contempt, Ptahil, Radiation Sickness, My Funeral, Neldoreth, Patronymicon, Moonkult, Masochist, Master, Putrified, Internal Damage, Seibex, Tales Of Blood, Sickrites, Towards Prophecy, Vortex Of Clutter, Shotgun Sludge, Ttnfyr, Black Witchery, Haiduk, Pest, Disforterror, Aegnor, Scent Of Death

The zine is thicker in issue #2. Total Death family is bigger now with Zivon Gurung, Petar Mrvic and Grinder in the team. The layout is the same like issue #1. Still uses skull in the background but the graphic have been toned down, not as dark as #1. It looks better like this. Font size increased, some use like size 12.

The reviews (music) also using larger font size and have more reviews. Rated out of 10 and separated by the reviewer. Glad to know Ugra Karma from Nepal is still active. I interviewed them for some zine in early 2000s.

Some questions are asked to almost every band. I hope they answer it honestly when asked about their day job. Now I realized Metal for Animal Liberation is a regular column. For this section they interview Vegan bands. Oh well, everyone entitled to their own opinions. But Vegan death metal doesn't sound right for me. Scent of Death interview is on a separate A4 sheet. In Malay we call this 'last kopek interview'.

Beside this there are also scene report on Serbian scene & Lithuanian scene and article on Nepal Deathfest.

This issue comes with free Cdr-EP of Darkall Slaves "Abyssies of Seclusion".

My copy is hand-numbered 40/200.

They have bigcartel site but shows that all issues already sold-out. Info in their FB says they no longer active as print zine and launch a webzine under different name.
