Article
Alexander The Great

Another Metal Storm but this is from Greece. Do you know Malaysia also has Metal Storm, an old pro-printed magazine created by the one of the editor of Nocturnal Slaves which later writes for Karisma (and some other magazines)? I think I will create one entry for the Malaysian one because I still keep this magazine.

Anyway, back to this Greek one, this magazine consist of Nikos Tzouannis as the Chief Editor, assisted by 3 writers. The previous issues, if I understand it correctly was written in Greek.

The layout; 3 columns per page which very much MS Word standard layout with big font size, probably size 12. Fortunately they use grey background and printed on glossy paper. If just plain white background, it will look very dull. Has table of content and the pages are numbered.

The main content is on Greek scene with its excellent choice of bands. The reviews are more on the Greek scene as well. The review section is called "Disk Count". The reviews are alphabetically arranged and rated out of 20. It probably include CD & LP but not really sure on that because they didn't mention the format of the album.

They also put reviews of Greek books in a section called "Free Your Mind". The article on Alexander the Great is a nice read too. Remember, internet just started at this point of time. So it is quite an effort to prepare article like this.

Not much info I can get when googling about this magazine. Below are the contact address and email.

Unbound #4 (1999)

Unbound #4 (1999)
64 pg, A4, xerox, English

Interview
Pearly Penile Papules, Nasum, Spazz, Dissociated, Romantic Gorilla

Another old issue I got for review. Weird selection of bands but the reviews have black and death metal releases. Some pages are numbered and have table of content. Layout are 2 columns per page, some page have big size fonts. Good interviews although I'm not into the bands but some manage to get my attention in reading them. Reviews are rated but not in alphabetical order and separated to demo section and album section. Lots of article. The zine ended with 2 pages of label/band address and some review on mail-order he used to shop.

Eternity #10 (1999)

Eternity #10 (1999)
76 pg, A5, pro-print, German

Interview
Inner Grostesque, Satariel, Obscure Disaster, Blazing Eternity, Nile, Trail of Tears, Solar Spine, Vanitas, Evoke, Dying Fetus, Gone Sadness, Vintersorg, Forgotten Silence, The Crown, Mangled

I managed to get some issues of this magazine. Curious to know how this zine/mag looks like, so I bid in Ebay (my first ever bidding for this kind) and won. I suspected this mag is in German because the seller write to me in German (I didn't make any research about this magazine before and no info mentioned it's written in German). How true it was. A small sized magazine written all in German. I don't understand anything but I can always learn a thing a two.

I'm amazed at the layout. Unlike Grrrl Rebel (DIY zine, review elsewhere), this is pro-printed desktop publishing layout. Small in size but able to make few columns per page and still look very nice (like looking at normal magazine, except this one is small). And I have to compromise the picture size, some are really tiny. I'm sure many people will not like this.

And yes, CD sampler available too. All info you need about the songs/releases available on page 4 including the front covers.

About the content, some that I noticed are reviews; "Hard Stuff" (demo reviews, no front cover artwork and not rated), fanzine reviews (they are made in the layout that looks like newspaper. Very original concept. Other reviews are rated and some are placed in between interviews (as space filler) besides gathering them in on section called "Im Plattenladen".

Thank goodness we have Google translator! I type some words and I got to know there's also a book review in a section called "Die bücherecke". And I got to know some other words too. Hail Google!

Other 'ingredients' are letters from readers, gig report, etc like other normal magazine will have. Special for this issue is probably "Dekade der Ewigkeit", celebrating 10 years of Eternity mag.

Looks like a good magazine especially when they featured some unknown bands.

I got 3 more issues (but not in chronological order) and those reviews will probably be the shortest I made.
