This issue continues in the style of issue #6 which is full pro-printed issue. I think this is type you will expect from Deadhead from now.

Issue #7 is 180 pages thick. The biggest ever so far. This is equivalent to like 8 issues of normal zine.

The layout, the interview styles are the same as previous issue. I will be repeating myself so better you guys read my previous reviews. In some pages, maybe as filler the editor some "The Essential Timeless Metaller's Digest" reviews which old classic releases.

Also consumed half page articles on Schattenmann Publishing, info on back issues, Black Mark Production.

The interviews are very in-depth and entertaining to read as usual. Rare old pictures are plenty as well including as pin-up poster or the back cover. You can see the articles are more this time. And the 'foreword' continues after the editorial columns end to another 2 separate sections. The editor really voices out his opinions in some of the articles and ofcourse great research done on the topics.

Issue #8 is in the making, taking longer time to be out it seems. Hope this will be available soon.

Pro-printed inside out! What else do you want from Deadhead Zine? If you read my past reviews you know how the interviews are like. Having that kind writings and with crystal clear printing like this, just fukking awesome!

Layout wise remain the same, 2 columns per page with frame artworks. Simple layout but all these looks very neat. There are some mini posters. Most notable is Rator.

As you know, the interviews made by Wan are insanely in-depth. Some are in multiple sessions like Eurynomos had a second interview after Eye of The Pantheon is released.

There are also interviews contributed by Rosmalie of Api Zine (Grave Desecrator) and Venom by contributors from Poland. The ones I really dig are those with old Malaysian bands/zine. Vulga interview was done in Malay and translated to English.

Now having clearer picture of Mazetorment, smiling with warpaint on your face can also invoke that eerie feelings. I remember looking at the picture in some zine in those years but doesn't feel it. Or maybe I am remembering something else.

Actually after looking at Afterlife Prod's FB updates on the re-print of this issue, only then I realized issue #6 haven't yet being uploaded. Can you believe I have 87 drafts in my list? You can read lots of zine but to find the time (and motivation?) to type the review... sometimes I feel I am too old for this shit.

Also mentioned that this issue was sold-out in less than a month. And I am proud having this version. Let's wait for the second pressing European version.

Deadhead #5 (2010)

Deadhead #5 (2010)
84pg, A4, xerox, English

Interview
Rator, Beherit, Repulsion, Shackles, Nate Wilson, Embalmed Souls, Nauseant, Exumer, Evoked Curse/Evil Angel/Witch Tiger, D'Zai, Martyvore, Embrace of Thorns, Baphometal Fanzine, Chainsaw

Will you consider a pro-printed coloured cover as improvement? I do! While the content, layout, front cover style are the same with previous issues, the colour covers is the obvious difference you will notice. Basically, if you like the previous issues (crazy in-depth interviews) you will definitely like this one. The interviews are really long (including the one contributed by Jim Tsallos for Embrace of Thorns), even the bands didn't know or already forgotten on some of their past. Embalmed Souls jokingly request the reader to claim a prize from Wan for the patience reading until the end. At the end of some interviews Wan put some hand-written quotes by the band member which I didn't remember seeing in the previous issue. Few 'live' interviews made for this issue (including Holocausto of Beherit?!!). Wan, meet them 'in person' while they are here in Kuala Lumpur. There's a Beherit pin-up poster on the centrefold but it will be much better use separate paper for this, not having any interview printed on the back of the poster. Some changes on the review section, now the front cover artwork is used instead of logo.

Wan made a very long editorial which explain why "The Fifth Secrecy" used as the title for this issue and in ended with a warning 'The worst is yet to come!' Some 4 pages are used for article written about some band's attitude. Now I know why there are "fuck off Antacid" in #4. I can't stop laughing looking at some of the pictures here. This is between the zine and the bands. I know Wan since high school (1996!) but I also don't have any problem with those bands.

I tried to have some copies for Annar Distribution but sadly this issue already sold-out. You can still get this from Hell's Headbanger Rex and some European distro (in NWN forum, I saw some have this issue for sale).

Deadhead #4

96 page, A4, xerox, English

Interview
Impetigo, Rabbath Ammon, Blackfire, Headhunter DC, Inside, Metal Savage, Transgressor, Nocturnal Vomit, Levifer

Nearly 100 pages but less than 10 interviews?? Is there any space wastage or too many pages on news? Its not true if you think that. The interviews are one of the in depth interviews I ever read in a local zine. Oh yes, it is very informative and really entertaining reading those intie. Syamsul really study the bands, even the band are surprised! He also put lots of picture that makes you "on track". You know, its quite exhausting to read just text like NECROSCOPE so that really sooth the eyes. He still stick to the format he used to do, using frame artwork with computer-typed text and pro-printed for the front cover. Reviews also cover all formats (CD, vinyl, zine, demo CDr and tapes). Seriously, not much to comment to comment here, only compliment I can say here. Oh well, on some pages the xerox quality on the upper part of the pages is not good, I can't read that clearly but it is still readable though. Hah, at least I found some thing to complain about haha. Support this zine and also his label, AFTERLIFE PROD. Latest news I got is, issue #5 already completed. Can't wait to get the new issue. No email or myspace, just the old snail-mail way to contact him.
