Vampiria #6 (2002)

Vampiria #6 (2002)
68 pg, A4, pro-printed, English

Interviews
Bathory, Deinonychus, Theatre Of Tragedy, Pentagram, Blood Red Throne, Louisa John-Krol, Shining, Hungry Lucy, Jose Moral, Curachan, Diabolicum, Molombra, Testify, Centurian, Unto Ashes, Judith, Mike Bonatch

Amazing that some distro still have a copy of this issue for sale. "Elite Magazine For Elite Creatures". Man, they know how to play with words.

All glossy paper. Simple layout (3 or 2 columns per page) on dark background. I like it this way. For reviews section it is 4 columns per page.

The interviews are OK. Mostly gothic/doom band/artist. Can't remember the last time time reading 'new' interview with Bathory. This one is made after the release of Destroyer of Worlds. The late Quorthon said he already answered 124 interview before this interview after the release of that album.

The reviews, "Writing Of The Occult Scribe" is music review (album) rated out of 100, alphabetically arranged. Plenty of stuff being reviewed but the reviews are short. On the top of the page is My Kingdom Music releases (tracklist and some info. but not a review). For promo CD/demo CDr, the editor named is as "Demo-Nizzati". There are also 4 vinyl reviews.

Also interesting is the zine review, "Underground Press". They are rated on the layout like 'good', 'mediocre', 'simple'. First time I saw editor doing review like this.

I also found an advertisement of Vampiria Mag of Spain in here. Now I know there are other Vampiria zine in this planet.

I should informed you that the editor also runs a label called My Kingdom Music. This issue comes 2 Free CD sampler. I like more of the bands on the first CD.

Pogo via 1995/1996 - The Year Punk Broke by Tun Farul Azri
Otai Makan Petai by Apaisan

The editor missed the dateline and had to release this issue a bit late due to some personal issues. Fukking hell! He already release few issues in span of few months. That is already an achievement.

Comic strip on Kibota was fun, the character used as the icon for this zine as well in his blog. The origin of this characterstarted in #2.5.

The rest, as good as always.

The full page review/article on Pedal To The Metal was nice. I bought few issues.

The second issue released after a few months. Pyan already mentioned the next issue will feature more reviews and he kept his word. This is one is thicker than the debut issue. The layout, etc is the same style like the previous issue.

'Diskusi Dua Hala' @ Split interview with Pig-Krust & Bakteria. Before the start of this section, there is a one page info on 'Alcoholic CrocoCrust' split CDR featuring both bands released by Blazt Promotion (label run by Pyan).

You see The Bollocks twice up there. There are 2 separated interviews. This issue starts with the interview made by Pyan and ended with the one done by Trashnoiser.

There is a page on 'testimoni' from the readers for the debut issue which sparks his interest to continue with more Bangkit! in the future.

Article
"HC Punk Dalam Hidup Ku!" by Benny Pangazou

A well-done debut issue. Entirely done in Malay with nice layout. 2 column per page, with page numbers, table of contents and clear laser printing quality.

The editor of this project is Pyan Nathias. Yes, you guess it right. He's the editor of the kvlt Malaysian Metal zine, Nathias. In this project he feature mostly HC Punk scene; the bands, the news section, and also the reviews of music stuffs and also on zines.

He featured Carburator Dung interview in this issue which originally featured in Nathias #2 (1994). The whole interview is in English as it were featured originally and this is the only English section in the zine. Very lenghty answer from Joe Kidd to short questions by Pyan. He put some remarks at the beginning and the end of this section. There are also some interviews previously featured in his blog; Up The Punx

On the reviews, the reviews are from Pyan and other contributors. In music section, the reviews are not rated and most of it have the actual pictures of the stuffs being reviewed. Which mean you can the sleeve and tapes or CDs of the stuff being reviewed. The same goes to the zine reviews. And both are also not alphabetically arranged.

HC Punk, etc is not my thing. I am not into this scene. However reading this zine do enlightened me on the bands & zine in this zine. Print run not stated. I believe this issue is still available for sale.

Utilis!
"Pekerja Seks dan Transgender"
32 pg, A5, xerox, Malay/English

This is not music zine. Primarily written in Malay. Articles are related to this issue's topic as listed above. Some poems and comics available too.

Cut n paste style, xerox quality are OK but can be better. I bought this together with Harrk Tuih Demo.

It is a very easy read. I finished reading in couple of minutes.

Terroraiser #(41) (2010)

Terroraiser No.1 (41) (2010)
52 pg, A4, pro-printed, Russian

Interviews
Sirenia, Sinner, Brutal Truth, Asphyx, The Morningside, Prejudice, Fatalist, Anachronaeon, Angel Of Disease, Sadist, Annilihated, Grenouer, Dimicandum, DAzP

No.1 (41)? What's that? I couldn't figure out how the numbering works. It is also written in here "The Underdround Metal Mirror". What that suppose to mean? Some band's name are in Russian so I have to omit them.

It is Pro-printed. No fancy layout. 3 columns and printed on black background. Looks OK for me. It does not look good if it is other way around (black text on white background).

The review section starts from page 40. It covers review music and DVD (music that is, not movie). The reviews are alphabetically arranged and rated.

On page 38, there is "Heavy Metal Universe". I thought this is review. Probably it is bands bio: Black Omen, Dark Fury, Dead Theory, Grave Desecrator, Hybrid Viscery, Kimaera, Odar, One Master, Relicts, Tyrant.

Most of the stuffs reviewed has the front cover. At least I can look at those pictures. Not really a waste of money.

Tales From The Unholy Winds (May 2014)

Tales From The Unholy Winds (May 2014)
16 pg, A5, xerox, English

Many years has passed. Is there new issue of this "Sabahellegion Underground Newsletter" after this one?

The man behind this newsletter is Mika of The Undead, which is also the editor of Discarnage Zine. This newsletter is promoting Sabah metal scene.

There are tons of info and news from the scene. There are also scene report on every district in Sabah. Also label list included. All these are using typewriter fonts. Looks 'ancient' in deed.

There is also "Forged in the Furnace of Hell", a tribute page to Perantaraan Zine. Short reviews of all the issues and the front cover.

On the last page is the list of zine. On this I found something is missing; the contact info of the bands.

No interviews or reviews.

My only wish is Tales From The Unholy Winds to be released consistently in short interval like twice a year maybe. It will be great 'metal newspaper' if it can happen.

Thrash Metal Revival #3 & #4 (2011)

Thrash Metal Revival #3 & #4 (2011)
48 pg, A4, xerox, Russian

Interviews
Metal Special Fest, Rapen Winter Records, Karma Rage, Violent Omen, Blood Pollution, Ungoliantha, Frozen Rock, Ambivalence, Somnolent, Holy Dragons, Sanheim, D.Angel, Immoralist, Mad V

Gig Reports
Global East Rock Festival, Metal Special Fest, Metal Freedom Festival, Teutonic Assault

Why the hell I bought a Russian written zine? Because I love zine! At least you can look at the picture if you can't read them haha. Some band's name are in Russian so I didn't include them here. I think this zine is from Ukraine. Bought this from Dead Center/Antichrist Mag long time ago.

I can't comment on the interviews. I hope interesting chats presented here. The reviews are not rated and alphabetically arranged. Looking at the label's name, I think most of them are from their local scene. The music reviews the album format and demo combined in one section. No zine review.

Very neat layout with 2 columns per page, the pages numbered, and have table of content. The header has the page number & the band/content name. The xerox quality is excellent.

There is "Thrash Metal Made in Ukraine". Not sure what is this about. Maybe scene report or reviews but it has some interviews in it, presumably with Ukrainian thrash metal bands.

There is also small news section and there are lots of advertisement.

This issue comes with CD-R sampler but without the tracklist (or maybe it is in the zine but I can't find it.)

Anyone that has the contact addresses for this magazine, do let us know.

Ultimate Darkness Zine Anthology 1995 / 2017

Ultimate Darkness Zine Anthology 1995/2017
228 pg, A4, pro-printed, English

I am very much surprised when the editor informed me about this book.
What you will have all the three issues in one book. Just like Isten, Slayer Mag except Ultimate Darkness not as thick as those kvlt zines. Nevertheless, a nice to add in your collection.

The book starts with 4 page interview with the publisher and the editors; Karl & Ason. After that starts with issue 1, 1996. This issue is a bit 'primitive', although not in cut n paste layout, but uses electric typewriter type (2 or 3 columns per page), which is quite common at the time. Editors are moving away from normal typewriter or cut n paste to a bit 'organized' type of layout. Interviews in this issue: Angelcorpse, A Canorous Quintet, Nastrond666, Paganus Doctrina, Arckanum, Oberon, Usurper, Funereal Moon, Maredit, Absu, Dark Funeral, Out In The Cold, Rhymes of Destruction, Necromass, Feneral Rites.

Also in this issue; Icelandic Scene Report, band bios and music review.

The pictures are much clearer that I remember. The original issue is photocopy and this book is pro-printed and I assumed they scanned the mastercopy for printing.

The second issue, release in 1999 starts at page 66. Interviews with Abyssos, Thy Primordial, Heloisa, Paragon of Beauty, Best Petrify, As Sahar, Krabathor, Memories Records, Burial Ground, Sakaratul Maut, Profanity, Blot Mine, Noctes.

In this issue, the editor move to using computer in making the zine. Still the layout is still the same style; 3 columns per page and a page frame (standard MS Word, unlike #1 which I think manually lined using marker pen). The review section is 2 columns per page and this time they rate the stuff being reviewed.

Issue 2 ends with Amon Amarth's interview.

Issue 3 starts at page 98. I just read this issue and you can find the review I made for this. The difference between the book and the actual zine is ofcourse the print quality. In this book is much clearer. I would advise just get this book instead because both are release in 2017.

The book ends with bonus interview Fredrick 'Hamoi' Melander, one of the founding members of Bathory. Interesting chat, almost 30 questions. This interview will be feature in the fourth issue.

The book doesnt have table of content. There are also full page ads which is not available in the actual release of the zine. The very last page is the stuff release by Cult Never Dies.

Do support the publisher and Ultimate Darkness.

Ultimate Darkness #3 (2017)

Ultimate Darkness #3 (2017)
126 pg, A4, xerox, English

Interviews
Venom Inc., Blasphemy, Sadistik Exekution, Mutilator, Merciless, Tormentor, Treblinka, Black Witchery, Pentacle, Belphegor, Master's Hammer, Opprobrium / Incubus, Infernal Majesty, Pan Thy Monium, DVC, Funeral Nation, Protector, Checker Patrol, Brain Dead, Eurynomos, Whipstriker, Venefixion, Cruciamentum, Obliteration, Vampire, Humiliation, Temple Nightside, Undergang, Farasu, Gorephilia, Skelethal, Battlestorm, Kryptos, Pathogen, Dead Congregation, Grave Miasma, Vulture, Englufed, Soulrot, Putrefied Remains, Necromorbid, Nuclear Warfare, Deathhammer, Panic Disorder, Suffocated, Pulverised Records, Necromorbus Studio

The second issue was released in 1998. And now they are back with the third. That is a long sleep. I remember having those issues. I also remember, if not mistaken, bought a demo from them, a band called Armageddish which the band refused to be known (not even an address or their country of origin). Maybe I am mistaken. Thats was a long time ago.

Anyway, back to this zine. It is still Ason and Karl (or now known as Hy-Karl) behind Ultimate Darkness. It is printed using laser printer so the quality is excellent. They layout is normal 3 columns per page with simple MS Word page border. The same style they did in the previous issue, I mean on the layout. The pages are numbered and have table of content. I think they wasted the page. There is 1.5 inches of blank space on top and bottom on the page. Definitely will cut down the number of page and look nicer too if can maximize the use of the page.

Interviews are vary. Most of it 17 questions or more. And that times the number of bands. That's a lot to read.

Reviews @ "Sepulchral Voice", only covers music reviews. Not rated, not alphabetically arranged.
Another section, "Old Funeral" are reviews of stuffs from the 90's (there is also a zine review there. Probably as filler).

And wait... another review section called "Pure Fucking Metal", the 'essential stuffs' that should be in your collection. Not a review actually. This question is asked to some bands and they replied what are the most important to them and why.

The interview with Suffocated is interesting. They replied in Chinese and the band probably translated them to English too.

One page on gig report. It is Fleshgod Apocalypse show in Singapore contributed by Al Fahmy of Abysmal Scripture zine (the only zine review in 'Old Funeral') and plays in Beast Petrify.

I hope Karl & Ason will keep continue with Ultimate Darkness.

Cunt N Paste #3

Cunt n Paste #3
76 pg, A5, xerox, English

Interview
Tribulation, Bloody Sign, Profaner, Nocturnal Evil, Slaughtbbath, Bastard Priest, Salute, Karnarium, Prosanctus Inferi, Unholy Crucifix, Scythian

A nicely done cut n paste zine. Have page number and table of content. The interviews questions are very long.

There are reviews on music (all audio in one section and demo/EP in one section) and also fanzine reviews. The reviews are not alphabetically arranged and not rated. The reviews are excellent, I must say. Hope the band can take those bad reviews. There are also some reviews put here and there to fill up space after the interview.

Empty spaces are very well-used like putting lyrics for example. Beside all these, there are also gig reports, guitar tabs for Parabellum's "Engendro 666". Article on Order from Chaos and Parabellum's "Sacrilegio".

There is also a contest with 21 questions. In the last issue, they offers Nifelheim's "Envoy Of Lucifer" LP. A good way to get rid of your unwanted stuff (postage paid by the winner I assumed?).

Good to know editor knows old Malaysian bands like Braindead and Silent Death.

I wish I can understand what's being written in the outro. My English is bad and they are using high level English maybe.

Season Of Decay (2001)

Season Of Decay (2001)
88 pg, A4, xerox, English

Interview
Urgrund, Lord Kaos, Crystal Darkness, Encabulos, Anarazel, ...And Ocean, Invocation, Omnium gatherum, Astriaal, Deluge, Martire, Crucible Of Agony, Grenade, Sakkuth, Dargaard, Skadi, Atrox, Secratain

Season Of Decay is the work of female editors Kats & Jodi. I couldn't find the zine number. From what I read in the editorial, this might not be the debut issue.

Simple 2 columns per page but looks very neat and pictures nicely arranged. No page number and no table of content.

Most of the interviews dont have introduction but they put discography at the end. Reviews are on music only, alphabetically arranged and not rated.

Mine is hand-numbered #177, out of how many print-run? It is not stated.

There is a section on occult article: Sovereign Masteries. Other than these, there is 2 pages of band/label contact addresses and one page of updates of the bands featured in the previous issue. Ok now its confirmed this is not the debut issue.

The zine was distributed by Morbid Orchestra Dist.

Ranjau Metal #5 (2013)
26 pg, A4, xerox, Malay

Interview
Militant Attack, Tammat Al-Qubra, Ajal, Zarquum, Wreckar, Lobotomy, Violator

Gig Report
Bertukang Malam-Malam

The fifth issue! The editor, Azahar continue the zine's tradition which is written in Malay. The layout is simple like previous issues with MS Word 2 column per page. Looks a bit better than previous ones with table of content and page numbers although with minimal graphic. But still uses large fonts. The xerox quality can be better.

The review is on CD. A short reviews, not rated and not alphabetically arrange. 3 pages filled with flyers and 3 pages for comic. On the last page on editor's editorial column. Interviews style are still the same, which he can elaborate more on the questions.

This is another Empayar Distro Prod. released.

Ranjau Metal #3 (2010)

Ranjau Metal #3 (2010)
A4, xerox, Malay

Interview
Modar, Symphonize Labyrinth, Emperor Magazine, Catarrh, Torch, Hereafter, Au Revoir, Metal Zone Distro, Soul Devour, Sindraz

Bio
Blackfire, Hereafter

Layout still need some work like the previous issue. They did cut n paste style with the whole interview of Modar printed from web browser. They compiled flyers and put it all in one section at the back of the zine.

Reviews covers music and zine and they are not rated. Zine review is more like words copied from the zine's flyer.

They have Torch again in the zine but some questions already asked in #1. This one I don't understand why.

They also become a distro now, namely Empayar Distro Production. Their distro list is available in this issue.

Lastly, again, a "No drugs" poster which taken from a Malay translated Hong Kong comics back cover is being used here. You old folks still remember those comic like Juara Wira, Pedang Setiawan, Alam Perwira or Raja Rimba?

Damn! Now I remember that I bought this comic called Senjata Misteri since high school and the series ended after I start working (that's after I finish my degree in 2004/05). This mean I went to the newsstand every 2 weeks for like 9 years just to but Senjata Misteri. That is a serious dedication.

Back to Ranjau Metal, #3 is not the latest one. I saw couple of newer issues (I think) from some local distro. I will get that later.
