Chips N Beer #8

Chips & Beer #8
132 pg, A4, Pro-Printed, English

Interview
Wayne Kramer, Phil Rudd, Gerry Lopez, Dead Congregation, Ripper, John Christ, Alan Howarth, Impetigo

A newsprint magazine. 2 columns per page with background image.

Beside the usual interviews, reviews on music and zine, there are also articles on Chinese Monsters, Hong Kong horror movies reviews, War Movies review, the section called "I Remember Halloween" and some other articles like "Highway to Hell", or types of knife. What I want say to is, there are lots to read here. There are lots of artworks and movie posters too.

A bit about the music/zine reviews (4 pages if I count it right), they are rated but not sure which are the best. The legend says "Pvt. Pyle, Tofu, Pretzel, Chips & Beer, Bourbon, Flying Jelly Donut Titties". So which is the best?

I think the 'theme' for this issue is 'war', so the articles on type of knife, War Movies reviews fits nicely.

Warta Malaya #1 (2013)

Warta Malaya #1 (2013)
76 pg, A5, xerox, Malay

Interview
Molot, Ajal, Antaboga, Mu-Aru, SS28, Jugra, Spiderwar, Boot Axe.

The editor, Misteri has came a very interesting issue. The interviews are interesting to read and made or translated to Malay. There are bunch load of articles. The only drawback is the photocopy quality is not at it best. It can be better.

The pages are not numbered, no table of content. The layout uses frame artwork, 1 column per page. As I said earlier, the photocopy can be better.

Some articles you will find in this issue: Nusantara Race, Kolovrat (a RAC band from Russia), Sensasi, Samurai Spirit Skinhead, Kenali Suku Nusantara, Siapa Itu Melayu, Arahan Dunia Baru, Legasi Musik Folk Zaman Lampau, Singhasari, Sang Saka Malaya

There are also News section @ 'Rencana' and some reviews. There reviews are music reviews, not rated, not alphabetically arranged. Some reviews are rated and these reviews are very long. These reviews are not sectioned together though.

Also given together with this issue is a 2 sided A4 flyers of Darah & Maruah Tanah Melayu, or they called it 'Surat Layang'.

A good effort. Looking forward for the next issue.

Existence Denied #3

Existence Denied #3 (201?)
48 pg, A4, xerox, English

Interview
Lifeless, Execration, Juanjo Castellano, Disrupted, Feral, Cut Up, Ashcloud, Lubricant, Exhumation, Bastard Grave, LIK, Endseeker, Purtenance, Revolting, Galvanizer,

The third issue from Singapore.

Nice layout, cut n paste style with some pages have frame artwork. I noticed that the interviews are like 10 questions but the questions are long one. Some are contributed/made by Maha Arjuna Wira.

Beside the interviews there are articles on Generation War, Backmasking, "Does Vinyl Really Sound Better" (this article continue from #2), 'A beginner's Guide to Buying Your First Turntable' (this one is very long and informative article) and 2 pages on news @ 'Hell's Gazette' and a book review.

Reviews are made by Harul Rohani. They are not rated and not alphabetically arranged. All have their front covers There are music reviews and the format not mentioned.

With extremely clear laser photocopy, making those artworks, pictures, and comics looks great. Except the front/back cover which uses green paper. I think its will look much better if it use white paper.

There is pictures of serial killer at middle of page like a pull-out and you can make a poster out of it.

I thought the third page is the editorial foreward, but it was a long article.

Teeth Grinder #2 (2020, Denmark)

Teeth Grinder #2 (2020, Denmark)
60 pg, A5 size, in English

Interviews:
Vampire, Sons of Crom, Jet Jaguar, Schizophrenia, Sorcerer, Stälker, Anatomia, Hexecutor, Fluisteraars, Gondolin Records

The first zine for me in 2021. Quite fresh issue too as this was just released in December (at the time this was uploaded which on January 2021). Which also my first purchase using Paypal after a very long time :-)

The pages are numbered with table of content provided on page 4. Very nice and clean layout with page border/frame. 1 column per page for interviews and 2 columns per page on the reviews. For some bands he uses cut n paste style which looks good if you can get it laser printed like this.

There is a blank page on Page 2. Was it intentionally made that way, I am not sure but it do looks awkward.

Questions are on average 10 to 15 questions. The questions are not the simple, straight, boring type so the answers was good. The one with Gondolin Records is the most interesting one for me.

Beside interviews there is scene report from Norilsk, Russia; article on movies by Alex Chandon in the section called "Film Portrait" (might be a regular column. Review of his movies is also in this section).

The reviews, well beside Alex Chandon movies, are only on movies (in section called The Videodrome. They are rated and has the poster of movie) and music reviews (rated, in alphabetical order but the format is not stated, cover of the release is also not available. The label releasing it is stated here though as well as the date of the release).

Before you read the Credit page on the second last page, you'll see 2020 stuff recommendation from those being interviewed here.

I was wondering who draw the artwork here while flipping the pages of this zine. Reading that in Credit page, found it was the editor himself doing the artwork, illustration and the logo. Nice.

The editor, Jakob Goul wrote what's is Teeth Grinder fanzine is about in introduction/editorial page. Limiting a fanzine to certain genre or topics, etc or not is the choice of the editor. We, the reader respected that and we read and support if we like it :-)

I am not in favour in giving rating. I can say this a good debut issue. Let see the next one, plan to release later in 2021.

Metalion The Slayer Mag Diaries

Metalion, The Slayer Mag Diaries (2011)
744 pg, A4, English

I wonder if these massive 700+ pages include everything being printed in all the issues of Slayer Magazine. Not able to verify this. I only have couple of issue including the issue with Impiety in it.

This is the hard cover edition. There are forewords by Ian Christe, Tomas Lindberg, Chris Reifert, Fenriz, Stephen O'Malley and Tom G. Warrior. Pictures of Metalion @ Jon Kristiansen from childhood and till growing up and his stories during those times and how he got connected to metal are also nice to read. Then continues with "Live Wire", a publication he did before Slayer Magazine in 1983. Only after this starts with Slayer issues. In every issue he will starts with a foreword where he try to remember the memories during making that issue.

It is not 1 page of the zine = 1 page in this book. There are some pages are having 4 smaller pages of Slayer Mag issue. Basically there are thousand of pages to read. I still haven't finish reading it at the time of typing this review.

First issues is easy to read coz it is in Norwegian language. Not really reading, just looking at the pictures. After issue 3/4 written in English.

I am going to continue reading now. It might take months to complete.

Into The Catacomb #2 (2011)

Into The Catacomb #2 (2011)
6 pg, A4, xerox, English

Interview
Crux, Sindrome, Wrathprayer

I mentioned about this newsletter in Hellfukking Metal review. I bought this together with others zines from some distro. Excellent cut n paste newsletter featuring old school bands. Crux from Czech is the most noted one from the three for me because of the (history) relation with Root. Sindrom is a US thrash bands and Wrathprayer is from Chile.

No editorial. Only 6 pages printed on 1 side of the paper. This is printed using their own ink-jet printer I assumed looking at the printing quality. Definitely not a photocopy. Reviews are not alphabetically arranged and not rated. All formats in 1 section. Some flyers here and there to fill up the empty space.

Terozin #4 (2013)

Terozin #4 (2013)
40 pg, A4, xerox, English

Interview
Scapegoat, Rude, Maximum Oversatan, Division Speed, Concrete, Battery, Envenomed, Nuklear Annilihation, Blasfemia, Cemetery Lust, Savage Streets, Ranger, Poisoned, Death Invoker, Qassam, Manzer

I got this from Old Goat Corpse Distro @ Virus Zine editor. Excellent xerox quality. Have table of content, the pages are numbered, cut n paste style and use old typewriter type font.

Interesting interview with Qassam. With no contact address the editor managed to tracked down the band and have the interview in this issue.

The reviews cover music (tapes & CD/CDR, only text, no cover) and zine. The reviews are not alphabetically arranged and not rated. The zine @ "Toilet Readings" review is longer than music reviews. I don't read zine in the toilet though. I afraid the water will splash onto the zine. Arghh! I even got stressed out thinking about it.

My copy is hand-numbered #139/150
