Pariah Child (2005)

Pariah Child #1 (2005)
68 pg, A4, xerox, English

Interview
Scald, Oak, Forsaken, Well Of Souls, Liquid Sound Company, Zess, Northwinds, Pentagram, Mirror Of Deception, The Gates of Slumber, Litmus

I bought second-hand zine from some Malaysian working in England. From the bands list, they support more doom metal bands.

Very clean layout and very clear photocopy quality. 2 columns per page. The reviews are not rated and only cover music (all formats combined in one section).

My copy is hand-numbered 125/500. 500 copies is a lot for a zine.

Impact Drill #2 (2005)

Impact Drill #2 (2005)
48pg, A5, xerox, English

Interview
One Step Beyond, Barbatos

Scene Report
Sardinia, Hungary, India, Mecadonia

Another old zine that I bought from some distro. Just 2 interviews and the questions are not in-depth. Only 9 questions asked to Barbatos! What consume most of the pages here are the scene reports, gig reports and reviews. I really like the scene report though. The layout is clean and looks organized even with the cut n paste style (3 columns per page) except vinyl review section which is totally different style. Good xerox quality. No table of content and no page number. The reviews are separated to several section; album, compilation, demo, and fanzine and of course the infamous 'last minute' reviews.

Mine numbered #178.

Abysmal Scripture #4 (Jan.2005)

Abysmal Scripture #4 (Jan.2005)
40pg, A4, xerox, English

Interview
Imperial Hordes, Deadmoon, Thorn, Grabschander, Putridity, Prayer Book Zine, Vow Dreams, Desaster, Nefarious Azarak, Atavism, Litham/Lelahel Prod., The No Mads, Excarnated

Releasing 1 issue a year is quite impressive. Further improvement on the xerox quality. The layout style follows the one they started in #3. It will be great if both answers in Prayer Book interview shown here (what the hell I'm talking about here? that's for you to find out).

Before the release of this issue, Beast Petrify have just released "Webbed In Living Hell" so the editor (Al Falmi) take the chance in the interview asking the bands their opinion on his latest CD.

One thing that annoys me is having picture in the middle of the page (for the section with no column or 1 column). This is what I meant with 'this kind of arrangement' in #3. My old eyes have problem in joining back the sentence but probably this problem only applicable to me only :-)

The gore film & videos reviews are not as much as the previous issues. I noticed the editor added his comment at almost every answer which is good since he elaborate further the point of discussion.

Api #3 (2005)

Api #3 (2005)
52 pg, A5, xerox, English

Interview
Toxicdeath, Bullet, Throneum, Antacid, Godus, Nocturnal V, Estuary, Volcano, Desaster, A Good Day For Killing, Witchburner, Atomizer, Hatework, Vacarme

Bio
Headlight, Deceiver

I got this zine by trade with Domain Zine's editor, Syaiful. Well-done issue. I heard there are few types of front cover available. Cut n paste style with frame artwork, small font size (more to read) and excellent zerox quality. No complaint on the layout although there is no page number and no table of content. Reviews not in alphabetical order and not rated. All audio format combined in one section with the front covers although it look small but due to excellent xerox quality you can still see some details on those tiny covers. From the editorial, the editor mentioned that this issue was made for A4 size but later changed to A5. Not sure whether that's a good decision or not but nowdays A5 is the preferred size but I think its not a good size. I'm not sure how many issues have been released after this. Mine are hand-numbered #167.

Morbid Tales #3 (2005)

Morbid Tales #3 (2005)
60 pg, A5, xerox, English

Interview
Apokalyptic Raids, Sacrifice, Onslaught, Slaughter, Mars (metal shop in Montreal)

The zine is getting bigger (thicker), just like butt on the back cover. Font sized reduced and interviews are longer so there are more to read. BMJ font size increased a bit which is good for the eyes of the readers. A very long Sabbat live report and Sacrifice interview (phone interview) with Gus Pyann. No more hand-drawn band logo for the gig reports like you can see from the previous issues. There are more review of Canadian bands which is great and  the track by track review by Satannick is a good read. Some lines on top of the page are missing just like the debut issue. Also adding to the thickness for this issue is Alberta Metal Scene report made by Witching Black Records. Releasing 3 issues a year is quite an achievement for me although in cut n paste style you tend to waste space.

Morbid Tales #2 (2005)

Morbid Tales #2 (2005)
48 pg, A5, xerox, English

Interview
Anvil, Tinieblas, Witches Hammer, Toxic Holocaust, Watain, Cloven Hoof, Rammer

Now I realized there's another person beside Satannick in this zine; Black Metal Joe @ BMJ. I blamed this to lost text (text near the edge of the paper looks like being cut, probably printing/photocopying error) and no proper introduction. In the review section where I mentioned 'no name for this section' in issue #1 is actually the works of BMJ. I thought it was an old-school tribute page. Some improvement that can be seen here is better printing and photocopying quality. Pictures are clearer than before. The pages are numbered but no table of content. Still in cut n paste style. In Toxic Holocaust interview the text were cut 'line by line'. Lot of time spent there but the interview are quite boring to read. Questions for Tinieblas are short too but they manage to answer it interestingly. Also it is quite interesting to mention here Gezol contributed 1 question for the Anvil interview. Satannick & BMJ have their own review section but they both reviewed Cutthroat 'Anal Elec...' with different opinion. Like the first issue, on Satannick reviews the band's name & title are hand-written/drawn. Some are kinder garden-like drawing. Lastly not to forget, for the shop review section, 'Montreal Record Shop review', reviews the shops in Montreal for this issue. It can be outdated if reading it by the time this review is up.

Morbid Tales #1 (April 2005)

Morbid Tales #1 (April 2005)
40 pg, A5, xerox, English

Interview
Impaler, Sabbat, Blasphemy

After I published the review for #6, I noticed the back issues are still available. I bought right away this "Megapack" of 5 issues from The Basar North America. The decision to get older issues is to check whether it’s justified to end the zine at #6. If you want to end something, you must make the final output as great as you can then you can die happily! Like Morbid Tales, #6 is best compared with the older issues on many things. This issue was made in cut n paste style and very dark zine (print/xerox quality are too dark but you can still read it). The editorial and gig reports are hand-written. At the edge of the paper, some sentences can’t be read in full because some words are missing. It will take hours to make that Impaler interview and also reading it because the answer was cut n paste line by line and they are not all in straight line (I need to be focused here). The pages are numbered but no table of content. Album reviews are rated with 80's stuffs compiled in 1 section. No zine review but there is review of metal shops called "Morbid Guide for Music Shops", mostly in Ontaria. There are cartoons and some caption on the pictures which is funny to read. This is a 40 pages issue, looks thick but you can finish this in few minutes.

Pathologically Explicit #7 (2005)

Pathologically Explicit #7 (2005)
52 page, A5, pro-print, English

Interview
Machetazo, Brodequin, Goregiastic Records, Melting Flesh, Flagellum Dei, Goratory, Gathering Darkness, Devourment, Deaden, Eschaton, Infected Malignity, Abrasive, Emeth, Internal Suffering, Misanthropy Productions, Rompeprop, Gutrol, Vomitory, Psycroptic, Nocturnal Vomit, Zombie Ritual, Vomit Remnants, Nihil Obstat, Stabwound

I'm not really sure whether this is pro-printed or a good laser xerox. Anyway, the print quality is excellent especially when background picture is used for the interview. Pity the layout is too simple type using computer. Some graphic used are not edited. You can see "click here to enter" which I think they are taken from websites. No table of content and the pages are not numbered. Some interviews dont have intro or band logo on top but the questions are numbered so you will not get confused. If its numbered 1, that will belong to the next interview/band. Music reviews are not rated and arranged by label releasing them, not by band's name. You will not see that too often! At the end of section, they continued with tape and zine reviews. A lot of bands featured here but they are not in genre that I like. Also available here a short Colombian scene report.

Tornado #5 (2005)

Tornado #5 (2005)
44 pg, A5, xerox, English

Interview
Victimizer, Abysmal Grief, Blasphemy, Mirage, Arckanum, NWN, Vomitor, Watain, Misery Omen, Mournful Congregation, Ripper, Sodomizer

"The Cursed Issue", says the zine. I once have all the issues before #5. Those who do not know, the editor also played in Denial of God and own Horror Records. This issue looks like the way I remembered. Computer type layout with 2 or 3 columns per page. Using small font size so things look a bit cramp. No space waste because everything are nicely arranged. One thing that I think make their own trade mark is using frame/border artwork including in between the column. Interviews are a good read. They manage to interview Mirage (an old Danish Heavy Metal released a mini-album in 1985). Reviews are at times are short and are placed in extra space after the interview but it also have its own review section. I got this as a xerox copy from some metalhead like 2 years ago. The actual copy will look a lot better. I'm quite delighted to know a new issue is already out after a long silence. Will definitely get a copy of #6.

Asylum Industries Music #1 (2005)

Asylum Industries Music #1 (Oct. 2005)
16 pg, xerox, A5, English

Interview
Amethyst, Langsuyr, Suicidal

When I traded some stuff with the editor, he was kind enough to give me some copies of this now-defunct newsletter. The layout is terrific, very creative and looks professional. The xerox quality is excellent. Laser! I only wish the arrangement can be made better because it look a bit 'chaotic'. Example; you read Suicidal, Langsuyr, back to Suicidal, Amethyst, some band bio and back to Langsuyr and Amethyst. They have a table of content but page are not numbered, which is forgivable for small publication like. Only a small problem when you are asked "continue to page.." but there are no page number. And also putting some intro before the interview will be nice too. Beside interview they also have section called "Promoboard" (info on new bands and bio): Nefarious Azarak, Suicidal, Sicksociety, Netherealm, Neferty, Everlasting Tales, Carnivora, A Good Day For Killing, Astray, Angma. Good newsletter project really. Sad, it is not alive now.

Death Attack #2 (2005)

48 page, A4, xerox, Malay

Interview
Catarrh, Antacid, Sailendra, Dosa, Rengkong Tekeluaq, Samartary, Abhorence, Farasu, Destroyer666, In Torment, Neruka, The Sick, Beast Petrify, Nrocinu, Torch, Impiety

Bio
Argon, Talisman, Noiratasya, Maar, The Legion, Zubirun, Disinter, Internal Suffering, Dark Rival

The second issue, released in 1 year time frame after the debut. But unfortunately no more issues coming out after this but don't be dissappointed. I got SMS from the editor saying the work for 3rd issue will start in Oct. 09. The news is also up in the myspace at the time of this review being made. So it took 4 or 5 years to release the third issue. What are they been doing all this while? I found that they also write in local rock magazine (they come with intie of metal bands) which is cool. Other than that I dont know. About the second issue, layout-wise it almost the same like the debut issue. Some improvement here is there's TOC (table of content) and with page number, the news section (or called "Info Metallik") have been reduced to 5 page only and the addition of "Media Massa Metal" (zine review). Other than that, there's still "Rebiu Metallik" (done like before, all format gathered in 1 section) but renamed "Militant Attack" to "Metallik Warrior" (band bio section, probably it was changed because there's a band here with that name). No improvement on the xerox quality though. In issue #1, they requested for article from readers. They give the guideline or the topic the article should be based on (but I don't know how to translate that in English hehe) but I dont see that here. Probably no response from the readers. As replacement they put some other article which is quite OK. Its hard to find article written in metal zine as opposed to punk zine. Maybe metalheads dont like to think?? Or too drunk to think? haha. Well, this issue is already 4 years old. Some bands already not active now. You can either get this or wait for new issue but spending few RM for this issue will not harm your wallet.

Panzerfaust #4 (2005)

56 pages, A4, xerox, English

Interview
Godus, 9th Plague, Blacklodge, Misericordia, Crucifier, Must Missa, Bloody Sign, Hatework, Death Squadron, Triswood, Necrovation, Evocation, Paganizer, Nocturnal Vomit, Ancient Rites, Calvarium, Bloodthirst, Delirium Tremens, Bestial Raids, Strandhogg, Masse Mord, Mordhell, Aguynguerran, Atomizer

This is a very old issue which I got by trade in year 2009. Very out-dated issue you will say but I think it's OK to give some promo here. This is the first issue made in English. Layout-wise, neatly done probably using some desktop publishing software. But there are some interview which I think the arrangement of the text and logo a bit messy or causing confusion. There's an article, criticizing Turbosperminator (where this Turbo.. criticize and laugh at black metal). And also talks on American BM elite, bootlegs, (un)black metal @ christian metal. Comparing his English with other English zine I read from Poland, Panzerfaust is way better. Will be great to see their latest issue, if they are still alive.
