Metalion The Slayer Mag Diaries

Metalion, The Slayer Mag Diaries (2011)
744 pg, A4, English

I wonder if these massive 700+ pages include everything being printed in all the issues of Slayer Magazine. Not able to verify this. I only have couple of issue including the issue with Impiety in it.

This is the hard cover edition. There are forewords by Ian Christe, Tomas Lindberg, Chris Reifert, Fenriz, Stephen O'Malley and Tom G. Warrior. Pictures of Metalion @ Jon Kristiansen from childhood and till growing up and his stories during those times and how he got connected to metal are also nice to read. Then continues with "Live Wire", a publication he did before Slayer Magazine in 1983. Only after this starts with Slayer issues. In every issue he will starts with a foreword where he try to remember the memories during making that issue.

It is not 1 page of the zine = 1 page in this book. There are some pages are having 4 smaller pages of Slayer Mag issue. Basically there are thousand of pages to read. I still haven't finish reading it at the time of typing this review.

First issues is easy to read coz it is in Norwegian language. Not really reading, just looking at the pictures. After issue 3/4 written in English.

I am going to continue reading now. It might take months to complete.

Into The Catacomb #2 (2011)

Into The Catacomb #2 (2011)
6 pg, A4, xerox, English

Interview
Crux, Sindrome, Wrathprayer

I mentioned about this newsletter in Hellfukking Metal review. I bought this together with others zines from some distro. Excellent cut n paste newsletter featuring old school bands. Crux from Czech is the most noted one from the three for me because of the (history) relation with Root. Sindrom is a US thrash bands and Wrathprayer is from Chile.

No editorial. Only 6 pages printed on 1 side of the paper. This is printed using their own ink-jet printer I assumed looking at the printing quality. Definitely not a photocopy. Reviews are not alphabetically arranged and not rated. All formats in 1 section. Some flyers here and there to fill up the empty space.

Terozin #4 (2013)

Terozin #4 (2013)
40 pg, A4, xerox, English

Interview
Scapegoat, Rude, Maximum Oversatan, Division Speed, Concrete, Battery, Envenomed, Nuklear Annilihation, Blasfemia, Cemetery Lust, Savage Streets, Ranger, Poisoned, Death Invoker, Qassam, Manzer

I got this from Old Goat Corpse Distro @ Virus Zine editor. Excellent xerox quality. Have table of content, the pages are numbered, cut n paste style and use old typewriter type font.

Interesting interview with Qassam. With no contact address the editor managed to tracked down the band and have the interview in this issue.

The reviews cover music (tapes & CD/CDR, only text, no cover) and zine. The reviews are not alphabetically arranged and not rated. The zine @ "Toilet Readings" review is longer than music reviews. I don't read zine in the toilet though. I afraid the water will splash onto the zine. Arghh! I even got stressed out thinking about it.

My copy is hand-numbered #139/150

Metalized Blood #1

Metalized Blood #1
50 pg, A4, xerox, English

Interview
Desaster, Los Asesino..., Haemorrhage, Church Bizarre, Anal Vomit, Ironfist, Crucified Mortals, Mar de Grises

A good debut issue. Cut n paste style, like using pictures of women with big breast but no nudity. Just showing the cleavage. Everything looks a bit dark and font size a bit large for me. The pages are numbered but no table of content.

The reviews are split to few sections and covers music & zine. I wonder what is the format of the stuff being reviewed. The sections are:
"Analog Assault" (vinyl?), "Magnetic Attack" (tape?), "Zine Corner" (this one of course zine reviews) and "Digital Command" (CD?). These reviews are not alphabetically arranged and not rated.

The editor has a good English compared with most of Thai zine I've read. Try to get a copy of this zine. I kept on hearing those riffs from Desaster's songs in my ears until I have to play 'Metalized Blood' after doing this review.

96pg, A5, pro-printed, Czech

Interview
Absorbed, Diabolic, Plastic Grave, Mutant, Dementor, Severe Torture, Enter Self, Flauros, Raison d'etre, Pyopoesy, Lux Occulta, Seth

I bought this as second-hand zine from some distro. It is written in a language I dont understand. Beside the usual interview, the zine include some gig report:
Nuclear Storm VI Open Airfest
Silesia Open Air Fest

You can also see "News section" in few places in the zine. The reviews @ "Bocca Della Verita", is rated using dragon's head symbol but I am not sure how many is the highest score. More than half of the zine are reviews. Only music though, no zine reviews.

The issue also come with free poster, "Le plaisir de la torture".

Hermyth #6 (2015)

Hermyth #6 (2015)
30 pg, A4, xerox, English/Malay

Interviews
Hanator, Velhalla, Rehearse, Bebal Mailorder / Small Man Zine, Rakaz

The sixth issue! I missed out few issues since my last update. Layout are pretty much the same like the previous issues. Cut and paste style. I wish the photocopy quality is better than this.

The is using more English than Malay now. This is their best issue so far. The interviews are getting longer (20++ questions, not the boring type of questions one).

Reviews covers all audio formats and separated with each formats: CD, CDR, Vinyl and tapes. There is also zine reviews. All reviews are not rated and not alphabetically arranged.

And not to forget, the last pages is the "Hermyth Zine Forum" (the column has it own name now): A series of questions asked to bands & zine and they provided their answer based on these same questions. Some reply in Malay. Total 4 pages on this. Quite interesting. I hope I can join this in the future hehe.

As always, the editor can be contacted via snail mail only. No email provided.

Interview
Humiliation, Blood Legion, Black Abyss, Rottuary, Putrefied Remains, Excreted Torture, Hiding Fear, Omen

Bio
N.V.T, Sacrilege

Best issue so far. The zine keep on improving. Cut n paste, small font size the way I like it and good photocopy quality.

Almost all the stuffs (music & zine) reviewed has together their front cover. Mix on English/Malay reviews but mainly in English.

They still continue with the column where same 4 questions asked by the editor to metalheads, the called it "Special Columns". Some of the questions are on ideology in a band and band without proper material being offered to play in gig.

Mine hand-numbered #62.

Inside Artzine #13

Inside Artzine #13
40 pg, A4, pro-printed, English

If you like the previous one, the extreme art in this issue will appeal to you too. There is a pullout poster and this time is more "metal" looks, which is nice to put on the wall (from www.cryptonaut.com).

Contact of artist is made available on Table of content page. There is also a page on links to adopting animals. Editorial was put on the last page. There are some reviews as well.

The front cover of Nobullshit zine is featured in this issue. Some info on Nobullshit in page 27 as well as brief info on other cover for some zine.

I noticed there are English with German translation on some sentences. The interview on James T.Knuckl is too short though.

There are more horrifying computer graphics and sculptures. Only 2 pages on reviews. Beside these, there are paintings, digital collage-sculpture, drawings, stories and poems. The usual stuffs.

This cover that got me attracted to buying this magazine after checking their website.

Still bi-lingual. This issue have more shocking dark/evil artworks. This issue has more English this time except page 33 (editor said its not German so not sure what it is written in)

Some art are in color. Some arts are too colorful. Although it looks scary but I think can make a good prog/space rock album cover.

There is a page on dolls maker (making strange dolls. They also being interviewed in Nordic Vision magazine).

Introduction on Michael Hutter is long and interesting one. They described the journey to get to get to him and make the interview with this artist.

Since it is more in English this time, now I understand the type of writings/articles in it. Stories in dark, perverse or black humour in nature. I laughed reading some of it.

The new thing I noticed is there are some reviews (zine, books, magazine and DVD) available now. Now I can check other similar publication like Inside Artzine.

From issue #5, jump straight to issue #10. This issue now feature computer graphic beside the normal drawings. In #5, computer graphic is quite rare.

The layout more professionally done with some pages in full color and all in glossy paper.

Main theme is on terrorism, 9/11, Iraqi invasion. There is a comic about 9/11 entitled "Massacre". Not sure if this is based on true story. Most part are in German

All artist and their art title listed in the table of content.

Some interesting quote:
Terrorist killed 3000 innocent civilians on 9/11. That's not close to 1% of innocence Vietnamese citizens killed by US.

Yeah, I know a bit political. In the center of the page is links and address related on terrorism. Enlightened thyself!

68 pg, A4, xerox, English

Interview
Scald, Oak, Forsaken, Well Of Souls, Liquid Sound Company, Zess, Northwinds, Pentagram, Mirror Of Deception, The Gates of Slumber, Litmus

I bought second-hand zine from some Malaysian working in England. From the bands list, they support more doom metal bands.

Very clean layout and very clear photocopy quality. 2 columns per page. The reviews are not rated and only cover music (all formats combined in one section).

My copy is hand-numbered 125/500. 500 copies is a lot for a zine.

Interview
Forbidden, Death Angel, Illdisposed, IronFire, One4One, Steve Howe, Sadus, Slayer, Destruction, Waterdown, Jerry Boys

Another old magazine from the past. This is "Where Underground Meets The Playground". The editor, Jeff Rappaport added humour in his writings. Some questions are funny. So this style might be appealing to some metalhead but I like it. You can find picture of him many times in the magazine.

There is a long gig report of "Thrash of The Titans". Lots of band bands played here. Quite lot of pages on this and includes photos.

On the last page is "Mail Call". Its a fan mail column. The reviews are on music only. They are alphabetically arranged and not rated.

49. Jan (Agathocles, Jan AG And The Gajna & Fahrenheit AGX)
50. Curby – Obscene Prods & Obscene Extreme Fest organizer)

Impressive debut issue!! Heavy fucker. Lots of interviews and the person being interviewed also play in many bands. I had to copy paste the names up there. 50 interviews!

The name of person interviewed is pasted on the picture, on the eyes to be exact. The introduction before the interview, it starts with "Next interview in Repulsive Regurgitation #1 with...."

About the layout, it is in cut n paste style. The pages are numbered, with table of content (it is not the usual type of TOC). Lots of picture and artwork. The font size is big. I guess this contribute a bit to the thickness. But on second thought, if uses smaller fonts, then number of pages will be lesser and will miss out those cool pictures. There is one page blank after page 155. After counting, there no pages missing. Maybe printing error. Or it is intended as such.

No review.

On the last page, they asked "What is your 10 album that changed/impact your life". There lots of blank space in the page. I guess they want you write it down there.

From the flyers, can see there are 2 front cover available and is limited to 230 copies. I wish I can have the other one. This issue already sold-out and so does the newer issues. More info on their FB page.

Metal Storm #3 (Aug. 2008)

Metal Storm #3 (Aug. 2008)
92 pg, A4, pro-print, English

Interview
Ares Kingdom, Nocturnal Graves, Desaster, Witchmaster, Pentacle, Infernal Majesty, Old, Midnight

The third issue follows what you can see from issue #2. Cut n paste style. Lots of pictures used and these pictures are related with what being said in the interview just like #2. There are pictures of metal head buying #2. Good job again by Hellthrasher!

And the same goes to the content. The interviews are very long, 30+ questions being asked (that's lots of research made on the bands). 14 pages on Pentacle alone.

And the gig report is interesting as usual too. This time a comprehensive day by day report of Wacken and Party San. Massive 22 pages!

Album reviews are rated. More stuffs now and in the same style. The editor already said "no point in reviewing useless shit", so dont expect too many reviews. Some reviews are in 1 full page (normal desktop layout, not cut n paste which mean the review is very long). Also added now demo reviews in cut n paste style. These are not rated but includes duration of the demo playtime. Whether it is tape or CD-R format, not clearly mention in the reviews though.

Other than these, there is "Hell Metal Artillery" section which is address and logo of labels which is quite cool to look at. And lastly hand-written notes in inside back cover by Hellthrasher.

I have no other info about this great zine except for some from their website saying issue #4 was out in 2010. I missed out this issue.

Baphometal #3 (2010)

Baphometal #3 (2010)
40 pg, A4, pro-printed, English

Interview
Graf Spec, Infernal Death, Morbid Darkness, Bestial Colony, Profancer, Tombcrusher, Rator, Belcebu, Alien Force, Libation, Burning Winds

Bio
Fetid Zombie, Paganfire, Abhorrot, Black Feast

Looking at the bands featured in the zine, one might think this is an old zine from the 80's or 90's. Not to mention the cut n paste layout with frame artwork.

Some bands have been dead for many years but somehow Eric manage to get them for interviews. The questions are those 'easy type' of question like you can read in old zines and mostly music related.

Some interviews are made live. If Eric didn't have problem with the battery, we might read long and interesting interview with Rator. He was in One Cafe Kuala Lumpur in 2010 and I think Rator supposed to play at the gig.

Pictures of old demos are available here. Some flyers used to fill up space.

No review though. A little bit about the layout that the pages are numbered, with table of content and printed in glossy paper.

Not sure how many copies are made. Mine is hand-numbered #95.

I also bought Libation / Itnos Split LP released by Eric's label together with this zine.
