Massakrak #4 (2016)

Massakrak #4 (2016)
172 pg, A5, xerox, English

Interviews
Aswang, Crown Ov Horns, Desultory, Hellstorm, Ironskull, Tormentor, Tenomizer, Nihilist Volcanic Terror, Perantaraan Zine/Inside/Maar/Kimar Records, The Eye and The Serpent Zine

I missed out issue #3. It's been 10 years since the review of issue #2 in this blog. Wow! I survived that long with this blog shit!!!

Back to this issue, Hishammer (the editor), assisted by well-know figure of Sabahan metal as contributors like Rosmadi & NecroAdiek, came out with an interesting issue. This issue is massive, in-depth interviews and many interesting reading materials in it.

Most interesting for me is the 9-pages of editorial or series of short articles on first pages of this issue. I always like reading the personal words of the editor in this section.

The review section, 'Seek and Destroy' which is Sabah metal review. Starts with releases from Kota Kinabalu Metal Troopers, then with Sandakan War Demon and I think all districts in Sabah is covered (Beaufort, Tawau, Keningau, Tambunan).

About the layout, 2 columns per page with frame artwork.

Gig report; Nunslaughter & Impiety when they played in Sabah.

Interview with NecroAdiek is always a long one because of many projects he involved in. I think I covered all up there.

Last 14 pages, reviews of non-Sabahan metal music and zine reviews. There's also reviews section of Sabah old demo by Rosmadi.

Reading the interview with The Eye and The Serpent Zine, when he mentioned an old Sabah zine, Moshmaniac Zine bring some funny memories. I wrote a letter to editor and fold the letter in a shape of an aeroplane. When he replied, the paper is a bird shape origami. Fukked! Having hard time unfolding that letter hehe. And he mentioned Baby Rina. Yes, that also bring back some memories as well.

Is that all? Ofcourse not. Those who read the zine will know what I omitted from this review. Fun to read but not taking side.

Tough Riffs #5 (December 2017)

Tough Riffs #5 (December 2017)
English, pro-printed, A4, 52pgs

Interviews
Suffocation, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Protector, Blood Incantation, Brutality, Internal Bleeding, TON, Dead Infection, Deranged, Pungent Stench, Gorguts, Cardiac Arrest,

And 5 months later out issue #5. That is fast! 5 pages of news, the same style like #4. The bands & zine write about their latest projects and shown here in their own words.

No comment on the interviews. Just OK for me. Those are quite well-known names in the scene.

This issue might still be available from Schattenmanns Publishing.

Tough Riffs #4 (July 2017)

Tough Riffs #4 (July 2017)
English, pro-printed, A4, 52pgs

Interviews
Autopsy, Immolation, Wombbath, Ceremony,  Putrid Pile, Undergang, Carnal Tomb, Obituary, Rude, Corinne Van Den Brand, Brodequin, Deicide, Skeletal Remains, Beheaded, Church Disgust

This issue presented some changes in the layout. Instead of the normal MS Word columns, now they used cut n paste format with that classic font type. Font size still big to my liking. This issue is also thicker, gluebind type. The pages are not numbered but have table of content.

At the top of the page, they only put the name person interviewed. No band names anymore like issue #3.

News section is at the last page. The bands here give updates about their latest projects. This is original. First time seeing this.

That Beheaded logo looks like Langsuir old logo.

The artwork they used for the front cover is great. Actually, if you look at all the issues, they are all great.

Tough Riffs #2 (2016)

Tough Riffs #2 (2016)
English, pro-printed, A4, 48pgs

Interviews
Malignancy, Prophecy, Creepmime, Nervous Impulse, Dehuman, Pestilence, Kraanium, Master, Blood, Misery Index, Morta Skuld, Ossuary, Morgue, Extinctionist, Burial Ritual, Cerebral Effusion

This is my first introduction to this zine.

Glossy printed, published by Schattenmanns Publishing. Quite professional on the layout. The pages are numbered, have Table of Content, colored photos. The font size is quite huge though. 3 columns per page with background picture.

The zine put the name of the band & person interviewed at the top of the page. So you know who is being interviewed.

No review though.

"The Blackened Path.." article contributed by a reader I presumed because the way of writing is quite different. Quite serious topic.

Sabbat's History to Come

This issue starts with a short editorial, the thing you don't see in the last 2 issues and then the zine starts with reviews.

The last interview with Molestral Palsy used very big font size with an introduction "Welcome to the first issue of .. The Fecal Rag". Now I am wondering whether this is a split zine with Fecal Rag. There is also 1 review of a gore-grind album and a news section in Fecal Rag.

The layout pretty much the same style in the previous issues.

Venom's At War With Satan
Norwegian Black Metal

This issue follows the same style in #3 (the layout format, no editorial, etc).

Norway Black Metal article is about new and upcoming bands. I know you are thinking about Mayhem, Burzum or Darkthrone hehe. And Venom's At War With Satan is long review of the album. I think this is a 'tradition' for this zine.

The rest are OK. Which I can find more info on this zine.
