Forgotten Path #3 (2011)

Forgotten Path #3 (2011)
124 pg, A4, pro-print, English

Interview
Strix, Loits, Enslaved, Luctus, Graveland, Lebensessenz, Bestial Raids, Supremacy, Through Intolerance, Keep Of Kalessin, Code, Empty, Antichrist Mag./Dead Center Prod, Animus Mortis, Teloch, Shining

This is my first encounter with this magazine (the issue is hand-numbered #14). The editor Odium and another 9 writers manage to release a massive issue. Honestly Graveland was the reason for me getting this mag. Luckily I was not disappointed with the whole mag.

All in glossy paper with background color/picture. Good layout (2 columns or 3 columns) but probably will look better if the font size reduced a little bit (the review section fonts are a bit smaller). Also made available a table of content and the pages are numbered.

Interviews covers music, band history and ideology are things being discussed. Some questions are very long. And yes, the Graveland interview was great.

The reviews are separated with audio and magazine having their own section and the section are named as simple "Audio review". No hellish title. The audio reviews are alphabetically arranged and rated. Lots of stuff being reviewed (30 pages!) most of them the first time I hear the band's name. The magazine review is also alphabetically arranged but not rated.

Beside these there are also gig reports (Negura Bunget in Liverpool, Blackmass Ritual Fest 3, Devilstone Open Air, etc).

This issue still available although looks like out-dated a lot by now since the 6th issue is already in the making now. Checkout their website. They also have a huge mailorder list.

Thrash Attack #10 (2012)

Thrash Attack #10 (2012)
212 pg, A5, pro-printed, English

Interview
Vampyr, Messerschmitt, Mad Butcher, Succubitch, Vendetta, Poseidon, Protector, Erazor, Living Death, Pyracanda, Paradox, Harris Johns (Music Lab Berlin), Beer Pressure, Holy Moses, Deathrow, Rezet, Backwater, Desaster, Iron Angel, Slaughter Command, Torment, Poison, Deathfist, Defender, Wardance, Cruel Force, Warrant, Outrage, Unscared, Monumentor, Assassin, Blizzard, First Aid, Necronomicon

Bio
Hellish Crossfire, Sweet Cheat, Witchburner, Tracer, Infernal Death, Airwolf, C.Woron, Delirium Tremen, Hateful Agony, Darkness, Motor, Evil Warrior, Nocturnal Witch, Violent Force, Eliminator, Pain, Obsessor, Minotaur, Despair, Old, Nocturnal, Vectom, Colderone, Atlain, Mekong Delta, Mania, Skullbreaker, Witching Hour, Fatal Embrace, Ruins, Angel Dust, Ketzer, Chainsaw, Exumer, Division Speed

The tenth issue of Thrash Attack and Flo presented to us an issue that outdoes all his past issues. A grand 212 pro-printed pages (I didn't count the page. I usually count the number of page (including the cover) but for this one I use the info I got from the web) and with a special column; "Teutonic Invasion - 30 years fo Speed & Thrash from Germany". What great way to celebrate the 10th issue but I hope it will not end up like Morbid Tales which stops after releasing the latest issue in pro-print.

Some drawback which have minimal impact; the printing looks like it is not enough ink. Other than this, it is all OK.

A little bit on the layout, this time still cut n paste but no background image, just frame artwork.

There are plenty of band's bios which I listed above but some are just a little bit of info on obscure German bands in the 80's. I wish to have more info on them.

Live reports are plenty. As usual, I like reading them. It’s like reading some one's diary on their heavy metal journey to and at the gig.

Reviews are in multiple parts (I, II, III, IV and last minute review). Includes the releases front cover and the genre of the stuff being reviewed, which I have said before, you can skip the whole review if they are not the genre you like). Some Malaysian stuff being reviewed; Firasah 7", Lobotomy cdr, Reaper (might have some printing error. Actually some pages suffer this kind of deformity) and Virus #6.

Article:
- Overlooked Records (similar to Pearl from The Abyss)
- Memories from a deadserious full timethrasher by Sigi (Hellish Crossfire)
- Let's Thrash! Thrash Metal in the GBR
- Heavy Metal Battle TV-Show by Neudi (very long one)
- Tribute to Big 4 (Kreator, Sodom, Destruction, Tankard)

When I first saw the "Tribute to Big 4", I am curious at first which are the really big 4 since I can remember 3 (Kreator, Sodom, Destruction). Then I realized I can't remember any Tankard releases.

Latest check before this review is uploaded, it can still be purchased from the editor's label mailorder, Dying Victims Productions.

Darahhead #2 (December 2012)

Darahhead #2 (December 2012)
60 pg, A5, xerox, Malay

Interview
Succubus, Corpsereaper, Putrified Remains, Foxhole, Lavatory, Nvarathos, Demon War, Inside, Visitant, Shamanic Rites

Darahhead was a newsletter in their debut issue (if understand it right from was written in the editorial), now the second issue have evolved to a full size fanzine. And the editor is also the man behind Virus Zine. The difference between the two are the language; Darahhead in Malay while Virus in English and the size (Darahhead in A5, Virus in A4). There probably more differences or maybe not.

On the layout of Darahhead, they are combination of cut n paste or two columns MS word layout with frame artwork and uses small size font. The pages are numbered but not table of content. I wish the photocopy quality can be made better and the artwork on page 39 can be made sexier.

Reviews cover music (local stuff mostly) and zine and they are not rated.

Beside these there are also gig reviews; 2 pages of well-written gig report on Impiety gig in Sandakan and the rest are Vehemence Distortion II and KL Thrashed 2012.

This issue features lots of local bands and some with good chats. Hope to see #3 soon and can be made as a yearly publication. Some interviews are best translated to English for international metalhead to read. If Fauzi do this, he will have completed 50% of the new issue of Virus zine.

Autoeroticasphyxium #16 (Feb. 2010)

Autoeroticasphyxium #16 (Feb. 2010)
76 pg, letter xerox, English

Interview
Beltane, Eros Fire, H-George, Psychic Times International, Brutal Ballet Company, Reverend John Hex, Crome Molly, Twisted Hillbilly Records, Jesse "Savage" Kahler, Lushmontana, Minty Pineapple Productions, Reborn From Ashes Zine, The Starship, Rosemary Stovokor, Winston Blakely

This zine featuring not just metal bands but there are also poet, performer, artist or probably other personality which I don’t know how to classify them. I remembered having an issue of Autoeroticasphyxium many years ago and I think the layout is still in the same style.

2 column per page no page number and and table of content. There is no band logo before the interview, just normal text on top of the page. The zine lack of pictures which make this zine look a bit dull. You have to be patience in reading them. Good xerox quality by the way.

The content is good. There is a lot of interesting chat. The people interviewed gave very long answer.

They also featured some cartoon, artwork, articles, short stories and poem. The reviews are not rated, arranged in alphabetical order and they covers audio, zine, books and DVD.

I got motivated every time when reading interview with zine editor but then when the sunrises the next day, I still am lazy. My posting in this blog alone are getting lesser now.

One interesting fact I got from reading this zine which make me wondering, can you ballet dancing to metal music? I need to find the video on youtube. How about oriental belly dancing to metal music?

Latest check before this posting is up; the official web no longer works.

Updates 2019: I have updated the new web links. Thanks Dave for the info.

Necromaniac #10 (2013)

Necromaniac #10 (2013)
136 pg, A4, pro-print, English

Interview
Unaussprechlichen Kulten, Undergang, Necros Christos, Stench, Morbid Chron, Necrovorous, Witchrist, Communion, Demonic Rage, Dead Congregation, Mitochondrion, Incantation, Order From Chaos, Funebrarum, Ritual Necromancy, Escarnium, Imposer, Sepulcral, Diskord, Execration, Coffin Texts, Purgatory, Into Darkness, Cadaveric Fumes, Nar Mattaru, Embalmed Souls, Slaughterday, Disembowelment, Inverloch, Procession, Swarm of Terror, Cthonic Aura, Misacounojo Records, Diabolical Messiah, Organ Zine, Paolo Girardi (artist), Genocide Shrine, Vorum, Maveth, Wound

My first posting in 2014 and the zine having the privileged as the first submission is a death metal fanzine from Germany, Necromaniac Issue #10.

Thomas, assisted by 7 contributors has made this monster issue (with Sadistic Intent on the back cover) possible. I saw Hacker in the list but not sure if this is the same Hacker of Unholy Terror Zine. And the contributor also includes Frank Stover.

This is probably the thickest in Necromaniac history since I haven't seen their back issues. I hope I didn't make a lot of spelling mistakes in the interview list up there.

Layout-wise, mostly using old-school style of layout (typewriter font, frame art, etc). Some pages using a bit modern style (e.g. Necros Christos or Stench) or in black background (Communion, Cadaveric Fumes) but all are equally good in my opinion. The pages are numbered but no table of content.

For the interviews some have intro before the interview starts. The first questions are sometimes very long. The interview made by Thomas usually ended with the hardest questions ever, Top 10 albums list.

The reviews are not rated and not alphabetically arranged and sometimes have the band's logo. Some reviews act like a filler to fill up the empty space after the interview. Reviews cover music and zine. Thomas is also an artist. You can see his coold artworks in this issue.

The interview with Order From Chaos was made at NWN Festival in 2010. I wish they could give longer answer.

The zine is given a free CDr sampler with pro-printed cover.

It is already sold out from the editor but I am sure if you google now (Feb 2014), some distro might still have this for sale. I suggest get this quick before it completely sold-out.
